Summary: This paper describes the problem of definition of illegal felling using satellite images and regional GIS containing electronic maps of the forest fund, other geographical and technical facilities. A method of obtaining the basic data needed to solve the problem of forecasting. It includes a number of stages, the key of which - performing operations on the GIS layers, containing information about the state of the forest at certain times. To solve the problem of forecasting the state of the forest is constructed Markov chain. A numerical example is the use of the described technique.
