Summary: Forest machines influence greatly on soil in a negative way when moving on. Considerable soil damages, damages of tree root systems lead to negative ecological consequences. The necessity to minimize these consequences demands to choose machines that cause less damages to the environment. Tracked skidders and wheeled forwarders are the most common-spread machines, used on harvesting in the northern part of Russia now. In order to estimate comparatively the degree of their negative influence on forest soil, experimental researches were carried out.
