Summary: This article focuses on the analysis of stands that perform a water protection role in terms of their composition and structure. The water protection role of forests is very important in protecting the shores of reservoirs and rivers from destruction not only during the low-flow period, but also especially during high water. Stands slow down the speed of water flows, act as a mechanical barrier to breakwaters, and protect floodplain areas from destruction, preventing soil sliding and collapsing, the development of ravines and bedrock exposure. All forests are of great hydroclimatic importance and are protected by water, regardless of which group of forests they belong to. Therefore, it is important to maintain a certain composition and structure of the stand in order for it to perform the best possible water protection functions. Field studies were conducted on four test areas with different plantings, where the main taxation characteristics of the stand and undergrowth were determined to substantiate forestry measures aimed at improving their water protection functions. It has been established that to form the optimal composition of the stand, timely age-appropriate tending felling is necessary.
